Complex care, explained
It is one thing to provide care for someone living with dementia. It is another to provide care for someone with dementia who also has diabetes, incontinence, and swallowing difficulty. We have over 30 years of experience with clients who have multiple concurrent needs.
Feeding and swallowing support
We often support clients with swallowing difficulty (dysphagia) who are on minced or pureed diets. Assisting these clients safely and thoroughly takes time and skill. Many facilities cannot provide this level of attention. If your loved one has been losing weight or is frequently dehydrated, we can help.
Dignity and skin care
For incontinent clients, we help minimise discomfort, reduce infection risk, and maintain skin integrity. Our caregivers are trained to provide this care with sensitivity and consistency.
Diabetic care
We have extensive experience with diabetic clients. In addition to hands-on care, our Registered Nurses monitor blood sugar, review medications, and communicate with the client's physician when values are outside the expected range.
Post-surgical support
After surgery, getting back on track quickly matters. Eldercare helps with discharge and provides the care your loved one needs at home. Proper support can accelerate recovery and reduce the chance of readmission.
Cognitive stimulation and well-being
If your parent is experiencing depression or cognitive decline, companionship, physical activity, and structured daily routines can make a real difference alongside prescribed treatment. It is a whole different matter to provide care for someone living with Dementia who is also at risk of falling, has become incontinent, and has swallowing difficulty. Swallowing difficulty and nutrition
We often see clients who have difficulty swallowing (Dysphagia) and are on a minced or pureed diet, drinking thickened fluids to help reduce the chance that they will choke or aspirate their food or drink. If your loved one has swallowing difficulty, then two of the additional issues that they need to be concerned about are weight loss and dehydration. Dehydration can lead to confusion, low blood pressure, and falls.
It can be very time-consuming to assist someone with swallowing difficulty and it is important that they not be rushed so they have a chance to consume their meal. Unfortunately, many facilities and institutions do not have the staff on hand to assist seniors to complete their meals. If your loved one has difficulty swallowing and has been losing weight or is often dehydrated, we can help.
Incontinence care
If your loved one is incontinent we can help minimize their discomfort, lower the risk of infection and complications, and improve skin integrity and overall hygiene. Our caregivers have experience with the various products that are available to manage incontinence and our caregivers will provide care with sensitivity and consistency.
Diabetic care
We have extensive experience working with clients who are diabetic. In addition to providing the hands-on care your loved one needs, we can provide education and help them adhere to their diet, monitor blood sugar, and communicate with their physician when values are outside the expected range.
Post-surgical recovery
If your loved one has had surgery, then it is important to get them back on track and home as quickly as possible. The sooner they return home from the hospital the better. Long hospital stays are associated with a variety of serious issues such as a greater risk of infection, depression, under-nutrition, and deconditioning. Eldercare Home Health will assist with your loved one's discharge and provide the care they need when they return home. Proper care can help accelerate recovery and minimize the chance of readmission.
Mental health and emotional well-being
If your parent is suffering from depression they may be prescribed medication.
