Masks, and handwashing are precautions against COVID-19, they aren’t going to help you and your neighbours get back to work.
And social distancing is an economy killer – there simply is no way to make many, many businesses economically viable with social distancing in place.
The problem with COVID is that we can’t see it. Much of the time we have no idea who’s sick, or who’s spreading it.
50 to 85 times more people were infected with COVID-19 in Santa Clara County, California than the official recorded number of cases of 956. This, according to a study using an antibody blood test to estimate the number of people who had been infected with COVID-19 previously.
The answer is testing.
But not testing 10,000 people a day.
Or 100,000 people day.
The answer to end the COVID pandemic, is testing everyone, every day – possibly for years.
The results of each test (monitored by a government service) being your ticket to go out and do things.
As long as you’re negative, you get to go to work, go shopping, go to school, go to a movie – without a mask, without gloves and without fear of getting deathly ill, or making others ill.
It is possible, we just need to think big, to be audacious.
On May 25, 1961 JFK announced the goal of putting a person on the moon.
On July 20, 1969 Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon.
This is our moon shot.
We need to change our mindset about COVID-19 testing
We need a Spartan mobile testing device (or similar licensed device) in every home.
You me, our kids, our parents, everyone needs to be tested everyday without fail.
It wasn’t until the early 1980’s that diabetics could check their own blood glucose levels at home.
Now it’s routine and has changed the lives of millions for the better.
We need to implement stringent COVID-19 testing protocols for everyone.
But what about privacy?
Guess what, your privacy may need to take a hit.
Suck it up. You live in a world with other people.
You need to care about them too.
Next steps to end the the COVID-19 pandemic
This a war on a virus, we can’t be pussy footing around.
We need leadership with vision and the authority to get things done.
Why were so many Long Term Care facilities hit so hard by COVID-19 – a lack of leadership.
We can’t afford to let that happen here.
There are more knowledgeable, informed, and industry connected people than me who know who the right person is.
Now is the time for them to step up and get this plan in action.
The end of September is our deadline
We need to get back to work. Our kids need to get back to school. We all need to get our lives back!
Testing is the answer.
